Oh yes, its me of course!! Posting in wrong section? Guilty of that myself as well - also have dificulty remembering what was posted where - Maybe there are too many categories? (I am good laying blame elsewhere). Not that owning a caravan should exclude from posting in the 'before' from time to time......I'll certainly be posting relevant advice in their myself.....

What to talk about? Anything really - will check if theres an appropriate category! Hate to be girly about this, but it would doubtless be called 'the nonesense women talk about'. This isnt about intellect, professional skills or academia -- just so happens that we are enthusiastic about caravans. So my starting thread is this: Please God, this isnt just novelty (newbies) and that come next year, we will become one of those statistics who disappear off site!!! Self absorbed of me (sorry) but I am the first to admit it is a character trait of mine. Hopefully not on this occassion, but scared that once all the 'bits' have been put in place, I'll go into, "right, been there done that" mode!!! Such a shame we're so far flung isnt it? Or is it? :D

No Tia, we won't honestly - even today I've had a situation which reminded me of how glad I am to have bought this bolthole !! And even though the drive gets tedious - it is, at least, just over an hour away .....

North Wales? Well I'm in Yorkshire myself....there will be plenty to chat about, dont worry !!

250 mile journey !!! I can only just manage 65! But I am sure we will all think of something. I'm going to my new one on Monday !!! (New to me)....
And cant wait - and I have no doubt that there will be LOADS to report -- let me just say that when I viewed it, the venetian blind in the kitchen was filthy!!!! It is being steam cleaned throughout, new carpets laid blah blah blah.....The first thing I am going to look at? Yes you guessed it.....

Funnily enough, was going to reply to your drain down post. I feel the same about playing safe but you can imagine how frustrating for me - blooming new van! So probably one more visit mid Nov like you, then will drain down. We have a great bloke. I suppose its down to the weather forecast really isnt it? But will report back about the experience of larger bedroom!

Me again - I know these have been around for years, but I've always thought they looked too much faff - however, suddenly occured to me how handy they would be over winter! Also realised that even stuff we keep taking over, can be reduced in size massively by using these! Anyway, just sent for some on Ebay (seven for 6.99). Great for storing the quilts and might now even store them at the van - they are mould proof, airtight etc., :)

Hi all, (it was me, Darren so thanks for that)

But ..... just had a blooming call from my salesman!! Van on its base but might not be ready for Monday - gas test. I am so cross. I asked if the rest had been done, carpet steam clean blah blah. Carpets done but not sure about the cleaning! Well what have they been doing for over a week? Thing is the last time they said two weeks, the van was ready about three days before. Fair enough its only ten days I've given them but I did ask and he said yes,no problem. And of course, 'must be safe' he said. Well yes, of course but dont hide behind that, when actually, the rest hasnt done!! Oooo I'm so annoyed! Getting back to me tomorrow.....

Who'd know? They way they manipulate money is just the same as cars! Car costs this much with excellent trade in for yours! Actually no - it all comes to the same amount - but I have also done some guaranteed lets for next year with Haven (which I am going to re-advertise myself and then buy them back) so that was another three grand off as well - if you see what I mean. But yes, the Atlas Moonstone super with the large bedroom, two loos and some heating....they wouldnt budge on price - I did walk away but no-one rang me! Couldnt stop thinking about it - went back - had another look and the rest is history !!

Hope this doesnt get too complicated!! I have bought some of those storage bags you put the vacuum onto and reduce the size....been out for years but never really had a use for them before -- now think they are the answer to everything! Even reducing the clothes pile we take each time. Wish I had them now - really bulky stuff this time for the weather.....

we went to Blackpool 2 years ago as my OH was picking up a new car so decided to stay overnight and I can't tell you how excited I was lol we used to go all the time when we were kids and I had so many happy memories of staying in a B & B walking miles along the see front ( and moaning all the way about how far it was lol ) to the tower and the Pleasure Beach.

Was a nitemare from the start lol took us about 2 hours to try and find somewhere to park the B & B was something out of the 60's I can still feel the scratch of the nylon sheets (shudder) but we made the best of it the Pleasure Beach was ok flippin expensive though and never going on the Pepsi Max thing again as long as I live!! and as it was a Saturday nite it was all Stags and Hens which was def not the family resort I remembered it as.

Shame as my daughter is 16 and has never seen the illuminations which to me were amzing when I was young and the tower etc but its just not the sort of place I would want to take her :( think its just a sign of the times my Mum and dad lived in Newquay for 10 years and it was a lovely family seaside town but not now all pubs and the same stag nites etc shame they are ruining all the real seaside towns :(

the thiong with Blackpool is there are good parts and bad parts- like anywhere i suppose. it id defo the place to go for a good ole hen/stag 'do' if that's your cup of tea, but we went on monday and it was just yopur everyday seaside town..

lots of people walking round as it was a lovely day, we didn't see any drunks lolling about, we had a lovely day and i they are re-generating the promenade, there is all sorts of activity going on, lots of building work and pictures of how it is going to look, and i must say it is going to look stunning when it is finished..

we used to go a lot when i was younger and also i took my children when they were younger too and i still get 'the buzz' when i get there,, once i am on the front and the trams are going up and down and i see the tower- it is me being a child again!!

yes, the parking is horrendous and so expensive, especially if you are staying in the town overnight and your B&B hasn't got parking for you.. i also have stayed in some really awful accommodation, to be honest, quite frankly i wouldn't ever want to do that again but now i have my caravan........................................... .................................................. .
I DONT NEED TO :D:D

I guess your right it was a Saturday when we went and when we went on hols it was always Monday to Friday so maybe when its all done and fabulous we will have a good excuse to back and give it another shot as I do believe theres no where else like it in the UK its such a unique fun place it just needed some TLC and sounds like its getting it :) next time though will go midweek and a B & B with parking is a def!!

Well what an UNBELIEVABLE four days I've just had in the new van. First of all, they rang Monday morning (!!) and said it wasnt ready! Gas check hadnt been done. What? Two kids chomping at the bit ....I could stay in the original 28x10 ! Sorry - but I had packed everything into bin bags and certainly wasnt going to put everything back!! Furious. Two mins to calm down so I rang back and said let's just forget the upgrade at all. If I'm going to spend half a day putting everything back where it was in the original one, I might as well just stick with it. Why would I upgrade just to drain it down shortly and let it sit there until March? Half an hour later they rang back. No, its ok you can go into the new one but its not entirely ready....in fact, apart from carpet being replaced, absolutely nothing had been done! Yet oddly enough, I saw that the gas had been checked three days earlier! Hmmmmmm......more later....this is just the start!

Did you push for the salesman to be sacked on the spot? I would've done. What you find in many of these cases though is the salesmen and the managment are actually in cahoots with each other and will actually get a slap on the back rather than a severe reprimand!

springhay
31-10-2010, 01:15 PM
Thanks for that. No, I absolutely loved the new one - freezing though and panel heaters truly less than useless !! But in fact, the salesman WAS threatened with the sack whch was just awful for me! But I also got the impression that the asst. manager already had his guns raised, and i unwittingly supplied the bullets! Totally insensitive how it was handled and absolutely ruined this holiday!! Asst. Manager spoke to me like a recalcitrant child. I then saw the General Manager who did at least have some integrity. Apologies profusely and asked me to draw a line under it - but I feel nothing but discomfort.
