We gave our van's exterior a clean last weekend but it still needs a good hose down, would it be ok to use a powerwasher or just use a hosepipe?

Don't worry Dianne, Ive put it in the right place for you.

I normally just use a bucket and sponge but I'm asure somebody will be able to be off more help.

We use a telescopic flow thru brush to wash our caravan, you just plug your hose in the end and start washing! It has soft bristles so will not scratch or harm surfaces and it’s certainly a great deal easier and quicker than using a bucket and sponge and you don’t have to balance precariously on a ladder!!

Be very careful if you use any high power hose as its possible to push water between the panels & introduce damp into the insulation.

We are not allowed to use hoses or washers so its a mop and bucket I guess............

Hi just looking through older posts and found this one,

Good to know not to use a pressure washer as i think a lot of people would be tempted to as its quicker.

As Caravanwindowman has said its not advisable to use a pressure washer as it will blow the seal around windows doors and corner copes , also the panels are very thin and could penetrate they way through .

I did this once with an old tourer and im sure it started off the damp under the front windows.I just use a pole cleaner and hot soapy water now and wash off the suds with a pump up garden sprayer

We were cursing at the weekend because we had taken the powerwash to the caravan but forgot to take the hose, phew obviously after reading this thread I am now so glad we forgot it. We also bought one of those afore mentioned brushes so will just use that to wash the external down this weekend, and stick to just doing the flags and decking with the powerwash.

Hi all. I posted this today on a new thread not knowing it had already been started:
HI, does anyone have any views on pressure washing the outside of caravans, I dont do it and my van has no damp spots, while friends who do PW seem to have damp areas. Is this just a coincedence or a reason to NOT PW.

PS it was another glourious TEE shirt day in Cornwall

i have herd its ok to pw the caravan as long as you don't get water under the roof as it can cause damp thats something we will have to check for when we go to the caravan in may as we let the park do it for us as perran sands only let owners clean them the week before the park re opens and we can't get down then.

If using a jetwasher you must not use full power especially on the joints of the panels as this will force water into the insulation.
We have a hose with one of those extending hollow poled brushes, even then the water is only on low.

Gawd blimey! Pressure wash 'my old girl'? never! She needs TLC at her age,;) so definitely a soft brush and bucket of soapy water with some Fenwicks to get rid of those familiar 'black streaks' we all loved so much in our tourers - remember?
