Hi Steve (and co) welcome to the forum:)

There's loads of people on here 'down south' so someone is bound to be along soon to advise you on choosing a site, and the fees etc..

In the meantime, read through forum and learn as much as you can about what to look for when buying an older caravan. I am the proud owner of 'an old girl' from 1995, so far (she says touching wood) she has been a 'tough old boot' through that bad winter, having frozen up completely while we were in her on our last weekend in Nov:eek:

There's a few things to watch out for, sound floor, no damp etc, please do as much research as you can before you get tempted to buy anything!!

Any Q's just ask:)

ps when deciding on your 'budget', don't forget to factor in site fees, gas, electric etc. Choose your layout wisely, bearing in mind a family using it, 3 bedroomed caravans tend to be a more popular choice for families as well I believe, and being an older caravan, you won't be able to charge as much as the newer one's, but if your chosen site has good family facilities, you should be able to hire it out if you are fair with your price.

thanks for the info, yeah well we was goign to look for an older one a) for cheapness and b) for a bit of a projct to kinda do up a little bit. but yes will check for all that. yeah thats what i want to look into andm kae sure i can finda site that allows older vans. will be looking for somhere around beere area maybe bit furthur down.

is there much difference in price of the pitch fees if i have a 2room or 3 room? as if i can find a van cheap enough with 3 rooms i would b intrested in that.

thanks very much

good luck with finding one for that price, pitch fees vary from £1200 to £3000 depending where you go. you might find that the pith fees will be more than the cost of your van lol. i'm sure some else will be along to give you more advise.

well, as far as I'm aware (on my site anyway) you pay the same pitch fee whether it's a 2 or 3 bedroomed as you're paying for the pitch, Not sure if other sites are different. There is a VAST difference in the cost of site fees, so do lots of research my friend:)

A lot of sites have age limitations, so be careful, only a few will allow you to take an older caravan onto their site.:)

Every site has it's own rules and regs regarding decking, some allow wood, many now insist on UPVC which is MUCH more expensive...not all site's allow you to build your own either, that is a much cheaper option...;)
Every pitch size differs as well (site owner/members will confirm exactly) but there are fire safety rules that dictate a minimum.

I'm sure I've read people paying less than that on here, and also higher than 3k (me included!:() So yes, you could well end up paying more for your fees than the cost of your caravan, some may not like that, personally, I don't mind:)

I'm not really the one to ask about sites in your area, as I'm in West Wales, but later on there'll be people on here who can recommend sites to you, it usually gets busier on here early and late evening....;)

Have you tried Google?

Look through people's photobuckets as well while you wait for ideas from members, there's some real beauties on here, and a couple of 'old girls' like mine lol... She's our old girl, and we love her, we're slowly doing her up bit by bit, it takes time on a budget:rolleyes:

Well, you've certainly come to the right place for info and ideas on how to 'do one up', just be careful if you're thinking of removing any 'fixtures' to modernise, you could end up weakening the structure, there's plenty for you to read on here, if you get stuck, just ask...............:)

Enjoy the site.........:)

Be careful if you're thinking about going with mates, some sites will not allow same sex groups on the site, apart from ages some will only accept mixed groups.

Good point ML, if you're an owner though, wouldn't it be slightly different?? I wonder, definately worth bearing in mind ...

You would have to check the rules before you commit to buying.
I know on our site under 21's and groups of the same sex aren't allowed. My son has been with one of his mates but I wouldn't have let him take anymore, a combination of drink, loud music and arguing about football wouldn't go down too well with the neighbours I think. But I can't see how three girls and three boys would be any quieter, I certainly wasn't at his age.
Good luck with your search and remember, ask questions before you commit to buying.
ML.
