:)Hi every one, newby on here so be gentle. Im in the early stages of buying our first static caravan, we have found a site we like the look off which as a few caravans within our price range. The owner has stated to me he only does yearly renewable licences. This has worried me has does this mean technically I could buy a caravan and twelve months later be asked to leave?? What is the norm if indeed there is one?

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I have never come across a situation where you can only keep a caravan on site for 1 year and then be asked to leave.
Did he just mean that you have to pay your ground rent and fees yearly (this is norm). Some park do have restriction on the age of caravans so if the caravan you are looking to buy is around 20 years old that could have a part to play in it.

The one we have just bought is a 2007 and we got an 8 year licence renewable yearly after that not sure I would have parted with that amount of cash knowing we could only really be sure we had our pitch for a year!

Thats my point exactley, and if thats the norm you have to renew yearly im quite worried about parting with my cash.

well we are pretty new to this so maybe some of the more seasoned members can advise you more clearly but for peace of mind I think I would def want longer than a year.
You are in the driving seat its your money and if he wants your sale its a negotiating point?? Dont just accept his first answer push him for more and see what he comes up with...worth a try :)

well ours is an 8 year licence so we know we can have the van we have now there for the next 8 years and then when the van becomes 10 years old they renew yearly after that so that it gives them the option to get rid tatty looking vans. but I have to say there are a lot of vans on our site that are between the 15-20 year mark but as long as they are kept tidy and up together they dont push you off!

Hello Jim and welcome. Our site has a licence that runs until the van is 18 years old, although, like other members, there are loads of vans on site that have been looked after and are much older than 18. When we were looking, other van owners told us how important it was to be happy with the site above everything else. We looked at 8 sites before deciding and have found a similar number of sites since that we missed when we were looking! - there are loads out there. The other good advice we got was to talk to van owners on site, you'll soon pick up any bad vibes from them.

Hi Jim and welcome to the site , our park gives a 20 year licence then after 20 years its a yearly one, as long as the caravan is in good condition it can stay on , we have vans on site that are over 20 years old so i dont think it would be financiall viable to let them go as we have around 50 plots vacant at the moment, like some one said earlier you are in the driving seat and its your money, see if he cant do any better for you :)
