I have been offered a Willerby Vogue which is 6 yrs old for £25,000 by the owner. It has gas connected, fully furnished and well kept and on a nice friendly site with low site fees.
Can you give me the book price for this van please ?

Hi Fontaine
This time the van is on a quiet park of just 90 vans with no club etc. so thought the price would be about £23000 but he said new this van would cost £48,000. They are including all furniture and fittings in with the price but no site fees and there is no decking. I asked him if he would drop the price but he insists that this is a very reasonable price.
What do you think. The nearest shops are Tenbury Wells 3 miles away.

2006 Vogues are top booking between 25k and 28k depending on the model. The new price may be 48k but he would only have paid around 40k in 2006. The fixtures and furnishings came with the van so that's not him being generous as every van comes fully kitted out.
I'm surprised it's still booking so high but if there's no age limit on the site, you like the park, and the van itself is in top condition then the price isn't unreasonable in my view. I'd at least get the site fees thrown in though.
It depends on several things though, how badly he needs to sell, your bargaining skills, but most of all you have to decide if you really want to be on that park with that van. If you do, go for it and start enjoying it!

I have found out now that the vans only have a 12 year age limit on the site although the owner said the site owner just reviews them. As the van is 6 years old that means it only has 6 years guaranteed on the site for £25,000!
A little on the high side don't you think?
What is the average yearly cost one should expect from depreciation of a van in this category. From the ones I have priced up it seems like at least £3000 per year which means on a nice site with site fees, it can cost over £100 per week to keep it sited over the life of the van before it has to be replaced.
This seems expensive to me?

I agree, now you've told us there's only 6 years to run on the van it's a no-brainer, walk away. I'd struggle to get £18,000 with only that long left.
On the question of depreciation, think of it like a car, with the petrol and running expenses being your pitch fee. There will be depreciation but the key is how much use you get out of it. If you are going to live in it for a good part of the year it's a lot cheaper than renting something half decent.

Indian Wells, if I looked at it like the depreciation on my car, I like to keep my depreciation costs to a minimum. Consequently I run a Ford Fiesta Ghia which I bought at 6 months old in 1998 with 2,000 miles on the clock (ex demo) and consequently was £2000 less than the new list price and which is now 12 years old and as I have always endeavoured to work close to home thus petrol costs me £20 every fortnight.
I like value for money ! ;)
If I were to rent a place it would at the least be an apartment or house constructed of brick with more ground (if it was a house) than a caravan so I would expect to pay more for a house in rent and running costs. Most houses round by me are £500 per month without fuel etc. The vans I have seen would cost over £100 per week in depreciation and ground rent so the difference in price is minimal. The scenery however is another matter and I agree you can't put a price on that.;)

Fair enough, but I guess you'll have to decide whether you want a Willerby Rio (Ford Fiesta) or a Willerby Vogue (BMW 5 Series).:p
