Just wondered how and why you came to decide to get a static caravan. for us it wasn't something we had ever considered. We've had a motorcaravan and a tourer before but never a static untill we found a site that we just really loved and found ourselves keep going back too it had never occured to us. Now after the luxury of a nice big static which is about 3 times the size of most hotel rooms! not sure either of the other options would ever quite cut it again!
One of the other main reasons was our dogs :D living where we do which is out in the sticks and about 600 miles from most of my family! its difficult finding people to look after them when we want to take a holiday, could use kennels but they are too spoiled  so we thought the van was a perfect combination of being able to holiday whenever we wanted and never having to worry about dog sitters. Some of you must think we are mad but our doggies are part of our family and seeing them running like mad things along the beach when we are there is great :D

but 3 yes ago scott hurt his thumb badly at work crushed it this was a mess and spent 6 weeks off work
he then got to work on the compo claim and he said if he got enough money he will buy one
well thats what he done he got just enough to buy one:D
i love be able to go down when we want and not have to worry about kids and dogs my sons really enjoy the van and if i would let them they would live in it lol

We had chance to buy a friends caravan near scarboro but after further investigations found all the bills would come close to £5000 a year so decided to look at skegness , it was also somewhere to take the kids and have holidays and weekends away that was about 3 years ago , and unfortunatley kids are growing up and dont want to go with mum n dad and i now have to work more weekends as part of my normal working week so unfortunatley we are getting there less and less but when we are there i thoroughly love it
Like Susan and yourself we have had tourers when the kids were little and really enjoyed it but as we got older i didnt want to start havin to pack the van up hitch it to the car then drive god nows where to unpack for a weekend then do the reverse on a sunday so basically thats why we bought our van

We had been for holidays in statics when the kids were young and always enjoyed. Now the kids have left home and were thinking about there own families we thought a static would be good for them as well as ourselves. So it has proven to be with both boys having holidayed there last year. So we have never done the tourer bit always been statics.

We have stayed in static caravans quite a few times over the years. Mainly as a weekend away. My other half has been trying to get her mam to buy a static caravan for a few years and share the site fees but she was never willing.
After our last holiday at a Haven Park we decided to seriously consider buying our own as we both had some savings in ISA's and started seriously looking this year. After a few weeks of searching and visiting loads of parks we finally found a park which we think would be perfect for our needs, New Hall Caravan Park near Hamsterley Forest.
It was by chance that I mentioned to a friend that we were looking for a site and he suggested the above one saying it was a really nice site and that fees were really competitive as one of his friends had just given up their pitch recently due to family growing up. Called the park and arranged to go down and have a look. It looks like a nice and friendly peaceful park, is 100% private owners, has no facilities but that is just what we were after and site fees are just less than 1K which we feel is a fantastic rate.
Luckily they had one three bedroom caravan (we need 3 bedroom) which we absolutely love and paid a deposit there and then. It's a 3 bed Atlas Solara 2007 and it's spotless. (Can't find much information on this caravan but I think it was sold exclusively by Haven?? anyone know?).
For us a static caravan means we all get away from computers, playstations, Sky (we are not going to get it installed yet ;)) etc and being in Weardale means we can spend a lot of time walking around the forest, local area, Weardale railway and generally should bring our family closer together. Well thats the idea anyway lol

Site fees just under a grand? Wow!!!! That has to be bargain of the century! Especially as the site suits you down to the ground.

I know we are over the moon!
There is absolutely no facilities (apart from a small park for the kids) and nearest shop is about 5 miles away which may have a bearing on it but I think it's just the honesty of the site owner. Cant wait for it to be fully sited, just a shame we are busy for the next three weekends lol and one of those is staying at a caravan at Haggerston Castle for the weekend - ah well! :p

We only started touring last year and although we liked the caravan we hated the towing and setting up part.We always ended up along the North Wales coast anyway and even had our van stored up there to cut down on wear and tear on our car. After the second storage yard price hike in a year,me and the wife sat down to do the sums on what we spend on pitch fees ,storage costs,Petrol and the extra wear on our car and we realised that for about an extra 900 quid we could pay the ground rent on a static. We went this week and got a nice one with the pitch fees thrown in for this season.Happy days!!!

We had just bought a brand new tourer when my hubby got us a posting to Cyprus - just about the only place we couldn't take it!! After researching secure storage and realising we'd lose the warranties (6 years worth) on the tourer we tried to sell it back to the dealer - 1 month old and we would have lost 1/3 of what we'd paid for it.
We had a holiday at a Haven park in it, and they offered us a good price against a static - much more than the dealer would have bought it back for - my hubby has 2 children who live close to the park, and as he is forces we move around a lot, so we now have a base close to them wherever we get moved to when we get back to the UK.
In the meantime we are renting it out to cover our costs whilst we are in Cyprus and hopefully it will be there for us to enjoy with our two older ones and two littlies when we get posted back to the UK (Not in any rush to get away from the sunshine yet though!! :p)

Hi guys
off and on over the years we have done both camping a touring caravaning and really enjoyed it but over the years traffic has gone mad and too many idiots on the roads so decided to go for a static in cornwall as we love it there and 3 weeks ago we bought a van on perran sands in perranporth cornwall and can't wait to go for the hand over in a couple of weeks time :D:D.

Hi
As I mentioned on other threads. We too started new to touring last year. It was great we bought a fixed bed Bailey Limousin brand new and off we went. The problem was due to my husbands work load it was too much hassle hooking up on a Friday till Sunday so we did not get away as much as we had hoped. This year we decided to have the van at a site between Mold & Ruthin with a clubhouse & swimming pool. We never did use the club house or the pool. We decided that as the tourer had top of the range kwikee leveller and 4 wheel mover it was wasted just as a seasonal van, hence we decided to sell it and buy a static. Now I am a fussy buggar and searched high & low for the right site. We spent lots of time looking at coastal sites, Park Resorts sites, Haven etc but hubby wanted somewhere a little quieter. We wanted somewhere within walking distance to village or market town and come accross Bala PERFECT....the site owners have been there from generations and they are lovely. The site fees for our tourer cost us £1650.00 PA and this site is only £1900.00 so not much more. We struck gold and the van on the site was the only one for sale and i fell head over heels in love with it. It come with wooden decking too. The site owners do not have rules as such apart from no sub letting, which we did not want to do anyway. We have spent 2 weekends there and count the days to go back.

Well I stayed at Primrose Valley when I was a child and I'm not sure if it isnt just some nostalgic whim or what! I did rent a static there a while ago and hated it! But went back with the grandchildren recently and ended up buying one!! I have said previous thread that I have been guarded and taken least risk approach with a tiny 28x10 and their cheapest site fees (2100). If the novelty wears off after my first season I will have to rent fully for the next!!
But so far really excited still. Problem is my husband isn't at all!!

We have done tourer caravanning for 6 years with the last three being in a brand new bailey 620/6. We had it set up as a static but the kids are growing and i was getting fed up putting the awning up. I was chatting to a lady in the laundry and she told me about her static... it was a lot cheaper than i always envisaged so 3 weeks later.. I am hoping to sign papers tomorrow. I just wish it was on our old site. :)

We went to visit my parents who were on a touring field. Next door was a static park that was quite well hidden from the road so we had a walk round and found it very pleasant. We had a look through the windows of some of the vans for sale and WOW how they had changed since I was young as my grandfather had one a few miles away.
We went away and talked about it - how it would be good to bring our son up here and let him have more freedom than he got at home etc. That was back in 2003 and we are now on our 4th van with 3 children enjoying the freedom the park offers them.:)
