Just back from our 2nd weekend in our van this year and after a few crappy nights sleep we decided we had to invest in a decent mattress! also Tescos had a good deal on a tv/dvd combi which was too good to resist couple that with a plastic storage Bench which Tescos should be delivering today and its been a very expensive weekend  I think my other half is on the verge of a financial breakdown lol just as well we had another renatal enquiry when we got home! thanks goodness for rental income hopefully one more week will cover the outgoings which I suppose are inevitable in the 1st year but we are on beans on toast for the next month ;)
But we had a wonderful weekend wondering how life ever was before we bought it :D

we almost went for a storage shed but to be honest we dont have enough to put in it to justify the cost so went for the plastic storage bench which is great for shoes, recycling, buckets n spades etc and seats 3 people so useful too.
We got our tv/dvd fropm Tescos too the 22inch set it up on Friday and its brilliant with the added freeview was def worth it perfect size for the van but the mattress was the best money spent its heaven! the old one was so bad I actually dreamt I was in a car crash and hurt my leg and was shouting my leg my leg and it was the pain from the springs in the mattress hurting my hip lol
Just need a few more rental enquiries now to pay for it all but we had to spend it to gte it back you cant charge full whack without providing what people need!

Hi
Just to say we are new to owning a static, only 4 weeks in and like you bought a Tesco telly/dvd/freeview. Could definately do with getting the mattress sorted next I wake up feeling like I need hip replacement. Considered getting a memory foam mattress topper minimum 5 cm thick for the existing one which looks o.k just not comfy. Do you think putting this on top of the mattress will be a problem if left in the winter months - totally paranoid about damp/condesation during shutdowm.

will you bring the telly home when you shut it up for the winter? i only ask as we have just bought a van and yet we will be shutting it up for the winter in 8 weeks time and so i was going to wait till spring to start afresh xx

Best to remove/hide valuables especially the TV.
Personally i would take the TV home.

We didn't suffer with damp last year and at -22 degrees it doesn't get much colder lol we have good insulation and double glazing which helps. I piled all the seating cushions into the middle of the room folded all the duvets etc and left them folded on the bed, pulled the mattress away from the wall, basically just made sure nothing was touching outside walls. We did leave bowls of salt in every room which were always solid we changed them 2 or 3 times over the season. Our van was lovely and dry when we opened back up in March :D
We will take the tv etc out just not point in even risking it, can't leave it on view and leaving in the wardrobe is against an outside wall so just not worth worrying about it.

Wow Tesco must have done a roaring trade! My new telly comes with dvd but not sure how to get freeview. Its 19" and I thought a bargain at 110.00. How do we dispose of old mattress? And do you all have cleaners for turnaround with renting? I am letting Haven rent for three weeks next year so that's taken care of but I dont fancy driving up and down for any private lets I do. I wondered about a humidifier for winter? Any thoughts? I'll certainly be taking the bedding home tho! Cost more than the tv!

i dont blame you on the bedding, people can bring their own bedding, lol.
might have to check if the freeviews built in as it could just be a TV/DVD player

We took our old matress to the tip, was fun wedging it into the car! with regards to renting we did alternate weeks in the summer so we stayed in between and cleaned it ourselves and also did a few Sunday to Satuday 6 nighters that way we always got at least one night stay so it was worth the drive up.

thanks I do love our van its like someone saying your child is lovely lol makes me dead proud!! Changing the mattress was the best thing we did this year could live without the tv and all the other things but nothing compares to a good nights sleep!! we bought quite a firm one which had a memory foam top layer and its heaven even when its freezing it warms up so quickly I miss my electric blanket but the salesman said shouldnt use it with it!
