Morning folks,
I have owned a static caravan now for 8 years and see the costs increasing every year well above the inflation rate.
A new one now is the site owner is demanding we all have gas safety checks and PAT testing for all electrical appliances. I have read that there is no law at present requiring owners to have these checks. Does anyone know if they can legally demand these checks, it puts another £150 + VAT on the annual charges.
Cheers any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Bigal,

Welcome to the forum,

I'm sure somebody more qualified than myself will be able to give you a full answer but if you sublet then they are defiently required.

I don't think that pat is if you don't but gas defiently is.

Again somebody more qualified will be able to give you a full answer and of course that wasn't legal advise in any just my view ;)

Darren

Gas safety checks are mandatory wether you sublet or not, do you not bother with these at home?
A site would require these to know each van is safe onpark especially being so close to each other!
PAT testing is only a couple pound per item, go direct to a electrical company it'll be cheaper (find out which company does your park).

You obviously have very little value on your life then (& others).

I have witnessed losing an 18 year old workmate who was gassed at home from a faulty gas appliance & others who have become drowsy from carbon monoxide poisoning (it kills slowly).

Caravan sites have Gas & Electric main feed testing as mandatory & any site that does not is negligent in its duty of care.
You can get tests done yourself by a suitably qualified engineer, make sure you see up to date credentials.

Do you not have insurance either??

I repeat-Gas safety checks are NOT mandatory ,care to say exactly which law says they are?
And yes i do value my life, which is why i have an annual service & fitted carbon monoxide alarms.

If you re-read i said i don't have an annual safety check, that's not the same as an annual service.I suggest you take a look at the Gassafe site, in particular the CP12 service.

Errm,i didn't ask for advice,please check young man.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
And unlike you ,i AM a fully qualified gas engineer,British Gas trained ,ex Corgi, now Gassafe registered, been running my own very successful company with 12 employees for over 20 years.I think i'm a lot more qualified than you are to answer questions about the law on safety certificates.I will ask again-what law says that a caravan owner(not a letter) needs a gas safety check????????

This is just getting into a nit picking thread, but...

You will not be able to have a caravan on any BL/Haven (or any main parks)where you refuse to get a gas safety check done annually.
If you don't send in a copy of the cert (having had it done privately), you wil find the park will test & bill you for it.
A copy must be displayed in the van & one held by the site.
Rules is rules (as they say) & if you are on a park that requires this i suggest adhering to the rules or risk being thrown off park.

Likewise Insurance, if you do not furnish the office with an Insurance cert they will billl you, using the main parks Insurance firm.
Reading all the T&C when owning a van helps to keep within the rules & knowing what costs are involved in ownership.

God to hear you are a Gas engineer, maybe you want some business on Parks.
People are always wanting to save money by going direct to Gas/Electric/Plumbing firms as the site do load the price for these services!!

It sure is and as the question seems to have been answered I'm going to close this thread.
