Hello all i need a little help,
My partner and I have been renting a static home on the same site for about 6 months now and have just started the process of buying a freehold plot on the same site for well below the market value.
The reason we are getting the plot and caravan at more that half the price is that 5 years ago the owner of the plot and owners of several plots on the same site were bullied off the site by the land owner who tried to buy them all freehold for £5000, (about 30k less than they are worth) we have solicitors letters and several police letters stating that this landowner weed killed the gardens poured paint over cars and general bullying tactics over a few years.
This led to most of the freeholders on the site to move away and only return once a year to tidy garden.
Now I am not one to be bullied and the owner knows this will not work with me but he is now saying that even though i am buying the plot it is my responsibility to pay for the last 5 years worth of services before he will put my services on.
I need to know where the law lies with this matter because if i moved into a flat I know I wont have British Gas telling me i wont get no gas until i pay the previous owners bills.
The landowner has made a mistake too as we have a letter from him to the previous owners stating that if they move back he will forget about the previous services owing and start afresh but he is asking for the last 5 years plus the year ahead from me.
He does not know i have all these letters from the previous owner of the plot ( an old lady in her 70s ) and the fact that she will not come on the site alone because she is too scared just makes me want to buy it. my friend is buying the plot next to mine as this is the same story the old couple got bullied off and also have plenty of letters from and to solicitors etc etc.
We are in the process of buying another plot also for another friend with the same story attached. This topped with the fact that we are not old ( all in our 30s ) and we can bully the bully as people in glass houses should not throw stones.
So can anyone give me the rundown on the law regarding the services please and the best way to get this done as we are about 1-2 week from final date and expect to move in asap.
