Hi all

I've just joined the forum - so hello to start off with!

I have some land in Greece and I'm thinking of siting a static there BUT I know nothing about them really.

First thing I want to ask about is power. What runs on electricity and what runs on gas etc? I'm guessing it's really only the lights that are electric and shower, cookers etc on gas supplies?

I think there may be an electricity supply to the land (but I'm not sure in what form) - how do statics "plug in" to the mains (if it is there)? Is there some form of wiring into a mains board - or do they literally justy couple to the power supply somehow? Maybe somebody could post me up a picture of the coupling or whatever? Is it standard mains voltage?

Also (if there isnt a mains electric supply there) are there any alternative forms of power available? I would want to power the lights and maybe to have some 240v sockets available? Can this be done with solar power, or car batteries etc?

Any advise gratefully recieved

I can't really help on what type the hook up is, as mine's all hidden. Although I think they're the "normal" camping and caravan-type ones - the big blue ones with three round pins - as you can see them on some of the other vans and lodges on my park.

In my static, it works like this...
Bottled gas (propane) for hot water supply (shower, all sinks), the gas fire in the living room and cooking (hob, oven, grill).
Electricity for everything else, including the two panel heaters.

can you not use a portable generator to power the electrics, the newer one are very quiet.

Hi.As already mentioned,a generator is the best option.A solar panel is just not worth the cost and hassle(learned from my touring days) and you would need a battery as big as your car to power 240v in your static:D
