There were plenty who did drain down over winter but were caught out by “the beast from the east” etc. after they had opened up again. Anyone who got away without draining down at all got away with a very long odds bet but should think on that they don’t usually come up too often. Insurance companies tend not to like long odds gambles either.

One of the things that was discussed here last year was how fridges and freezers could not cope ! In cold weather !

Remember the temperature inside your van in winter is probably the same as outside !! Fridge's and freezers when sold now sold stating they are NOT suitable for outbuildings..A caravan is as good as a n outbuilding !! Best advice if shutting down..Empty your fridge freezer and turn it off..!

Might as well leave fridge/freezer turned off, some sites turn off leccy in winter anyway. We have only used dehumidifiers one in 8 yrs that was first year when they were hardly damp.Good ventilation and double/glazing should be fine, however it's down to individual choice.Best to check with site regards leccy especially if you are thinking of leaving boiler on frost setting.I wrap a thick quilt around our boiler and turn off the power....

Be aware that some sites will be carrying out out of season maintenance, electric supplies may be cut of for periods, we have piped gas, very handy but if the gas main is shut down our gas meter by the van has to be manually reset/purged leaving the boiler unlit.
So owners thinking their caravans were gas connected were not, we switch our Morco 24 boiler to low/frost setting, no actual heating but will protect the boiler only - but only if the gas is on!!
The site management never mentioned that the gas had been off.

The beast from the East claimed many victims in Norfolk.
