Default Smoke Alarm

Anybody able to recommend a make of smoke alarm?(battery for preference). Or are ones used in houses OK? (thinking dramatic temperature changes, condensation etc.)
Our house ones are hard wired but I think battery would be OK for the caravan, unless you are able to tell me otherwise of course.
Thanks in advance.

I bought 4 off ebay for our van, good quality and a good price, I paid less than 10 for two with free postage, this is a link to the same type, the photoelectric ones..

Forgot to add, that's where I got our carbon monoxide ones from too..

Thanks both, I was thinking battery and you have confirmed it for me.(I must remember to remove the batteries when the caravan is empty).

It's not worth removing the batteries. Why run even the slightest risk of remembering to replace them every time you come back to the van? Just remember to check the alarm once a week.

Sorry should have made it clearer. I meant in the "close season". When the batteries are running down they make a really annoying beep. But then again there'll be nobody there to annoy I suppose, so I've just answered myself.

We have 2 smoke alarms and 2 cabon monoxide alarms in our caravan. We do not remove the batteries in the alarms in the closed season, we just change them when needed. We leave the CH on all the time on a thermostat and if there were no batteries in the CO detector we could arrive and be affected by a leak before we were aware of a problem.
