Default Considering a static East Cost / North Norfolk / 2hr from South Yorkshire. Ideas welcome.

Hi All,

We are currently considering buying a starter static. We have two young children (6&3) and feel it would be a good option. We have a tourer at the moment however it is becoming more of a hassle.

We are potentially looking around the East Coast area or somewhere within a couple of hours of Barnsley. However We are open to other areas.

From research probably a quieter private site with more reasonable fees (ideally 2k ish or under) would be better as we do not have a massive budget and somewhere with no age limits. A looked after older van would be ideal for us.

Don’t mind inland with the option of driving to the coast if the fees are a little cheaper and it’s within reason.

Just wanted some ideas, reccomendations and site fee costs to see if this is a pipe dream or a viable option

Thanks in advance, and I will keep trawling the forum and the net!

I think it’s far from a pipe dream , you obviously know the basics like go inland and pay less , a quieter site will be more likely to have a higher age limit and cheaper prices,, vans become available all the time so no rush . General rule of thumb is find the right site first , then the pitch then the van , if your buying preloved then the pitch and van come together anyhow. So find your ideal site and see what’s available .We we’re looking for something like your after and visited dozens of sites over a couple of years till we found our ideal site , we in wales so maybe bit far for you . But we had some great days out looking around, go to a caravan sales place and give them your criteria , they will point you to sites that match it , we also just drove around sites as we passed them, another way to find them is google or even google earth the area your looking at and look for the caravan roofs.

We was the same as Slattster, took a couple of years looking around Lincs coast, finally found exactly what we wanted last September. We are on a small private site just south of Mablethorpe, no facilities to talk about, nothing for kids but direct access to beach - but all they could want in Mablethorpe just 1 mile away. Site has a very small touring area, some accommodation they rent out, shower block, laundry , shop and a pub-restaurant that does entertainment now and again. Quite a few other sites nearby, some more family orientated, some allow you to rent out, no idea of fees, though the "Springs" group are pricey. Miles of sandy beach. There are sites more inland too and around Sutton-on-Sea, then down to Chapel St Leonards, Ingoldmells etc - quite an area to check out if you don't want all the touristy things that Skegness offers.
Hope you find what you are looking for, just take your time and eventually you will find your perfect place. Good luck.

That sounds ideal. From reasearch it appears that the Skegness -mabletjorpd area are cheaper ground rents and more in our price range

Not bothered about letting out would rather keep for us. Just need a site with vans in the lower price range

to the forum Johnson. It's a good idea to be within 2 hours from home. any further and it may become a bind traveling backward and forward.

Most static owners would recommend that you find the park first then the van and the pitch. Good luck with your search.

Gavin to gostatic. I answered your query elsewhere, you are doing the right thing getting advice from experienced owners. I think most will say basically the same, area, site, pitch& van in that order.
As you seem to be leaning towards the Lincs coast rather than E. Yorks I would seriously suggest spending time being there and making sure it is where you want to go time and again.

We liked whole area from Maplethorpe to Skegness especially when we get our scooters out on the front, no car parking etc. Our caravan is on Golden Palm Resort, Chapel St Leonard's which is quieter than Skegness. Fees around 3,000 a year half price of North Wales which is an hour away from our house in Runcorn, Cheshire. But long drive to van doesn't bother us.
