Question Willerby Westmorland 2001 gas fire

Hi. Iíve bought a 2001 Willerby Westmorland and when we moved in the gas fire seemed to throw heat out well. However, it does not seem to throw hardly any heat out now, even on the top setting. The site owner we bought it off has had a gas fitter out who changed the regulator on the bottle but this has made no difference. When we spoke again to the site owner he told us that the fire is not designed to throw loads of heat out and that the fire is working as it should. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know if the fire can be altered to increase gas flow and heat? Any advice would be very welcome. The fire bricks donít seem to get hot and there seems no difference in the pilot light if we turn it up or keep on lower setting.

That doesn’t sound right...... a fire that gives off little heat. Do you know the type of fire it is ? If not a phone call to Willerby might give you that info.a little research into it’s specification might be worthwhile. You may need more info before making another approach to the site manager to get him to rethink.

sounds like it needs a gas safe engineer to check it,as it doesnt sound right as davide says....have a look at your gas cert that was done when you bought...

Hi,
Just sounds like the fire jet and burner need to stripped down and cleaned. Not a particular hard job. IT possible that there is dirt or dust partially blocking the burner jet and therefore not allowing full gas through.
In worse case scenarios it may well be the control valve of the fire faulty, but doesn`t often happen and a simple clean will rectify the issue.
Where abouts are you? Will carry our gas work and are Gas Safe Registered.
Thanks, Ian.

Hi we are in The Yorkshire Dales, so a long way from you Ian. I’ve just got hold of the phoynumber for the fitter who did the gas test, so intend to ring him tomorrow. Might get more info that way than going through the site owner who sold us it. Just feel that he should be putting it right though, as we’ve only just bought it and were told that everything would be sorted before we moved into it.

Sorry you are having problems..You may well have got it sorted by now,I was going to suggest you can normally tell when there is dust or something on the burner because the flame will probably be distorted and the colour if it's dust may be orangey/ yellow.Does the fire appear to be burning normally?
