Default Central heating definition

Hi, sorry did a search but couldn't find an answer. We have a second hand caravan in which they installed new electric heaters in the rooms (hot plates that aren't very effective). But in the contract, it said it would have central heating installed. When queried, they claim these heaters are the definition of central heating - anyone else had to negotiate this kind of problem, as obviously this is not what you would normally call central heating?

Thanks in advance

Central heating by definition is heat from a central source ie a boiler , these are separate heaters and not central heating , find out the btu’s - amount of heat each one outputs and compare this with the btu of radiators ....you will need to know what size radiators would have been fitted . Don’t accept it tell them you want your money back and see what they say. See banner at top of page , join NACO and see what they say.

I think central heating has to come from a central point ie a boiler. Our last van had panel heaters in every room that wasn't central heating our new van has central heating ie a boiler and radiators that come off it.

Who can argue with the previous replies.. You may have been provided with heating but it is certainly not central unless they are claiming the power station generating the electricity is a central source. Who supplied you with it and did they not specify what they were going to install in writing?

Cynical view....Maybe it's their way to get you to upgrade...or refuse it ,and get them to install gas central heating...

Having looked at Haven vans for sale (+ 40No.), they are either described as central heating ie boiler/rads or warm air ie fan heaters, when a van is for sale new/used the description has to be accurate.

Telephone your council and ask to talk to trading standards or E-mail them. It's probably better to ask the question in writing as you will receive a written reply. If trading standards disagree with the park/manufacturer, you can send them a copy. It will give you more strength to your complaint and trading standards should take up the case in event of a dispute.

central heating and panel heaters are two different types of heating when you say contract have you just purchased the van when you say they just installed was this before you bought the van or after purchase was this something you paid for as an extra ?
