Hi everyone, I am new to the site and would like to introduce myself.

I will be in England in December to hopefully purchase a van on a site in West Lancashire. Christine my wife and me have two children, three grandchildren (all boys) and a little girl on the way.

We live in Spain so we would like to see more of our family. We use Skype but it's just not the same as seeing them in the flesh and being able to give them a hug.

We are really looking forward to seeing the site that we think we will be buying our van from. As we will be using it primarily in the winter we are a little worried regarding the freeze ups that are well documented on the forum. We intend to spend all winter in the van except for the close down which is only from 20th, February till 1st, March. Has any one any advice on ensuring that we don't experience a freeze up. Obviously we will have the site to do the drain down for the eight days that the site will be closed.

I look forward t your replies.

Hi FestiKnitter,
Thank you for your welcome.

I'm sure we will get good advice from what we can now call fellow members. It's good to know there are a lot of people out there who are willing to share their experiences.

We are looking at a site at Pilling that we think is right for us. The owners seem very friendly and are doing their best to help us. Once we see the site we will be in a better position to make a final decision. We have other sites on our list as back up sites, just in case we find it isn't where we want to be. At the moment it's our preferred site.

One of the main questions that I have is, as we intend to spend most of the winter in the van, we have asked for the Theramax package that Willerby are offering. As far as I can ascertain, It brings the spec up to residential standard with the possible exception of the second bedroom.

The insulation is exactly the same as residential spec with gas filled double glazing and central heating. Do you think that will be enough to stop any pipe freezing with the possible exception of the mains connection? I would think that the mains pipe would be insulated but would extra lagging help?

I have just received a call from the site with a price for everything we want in the van. I'm very pleased with the quote and it just comes within our top budget. I'm getting excited now.

Our pipes are underneath and very exposed my husband used pipe lagging on them but I imagine its only our lack of insulation that protects them. Skirting certainly helps in the winter but isn't cheap
