Default Partial Chimney breast removal Atlas Dakota

Hey all,
I have an older van, But we love it.
We are looking to take the top half of out chimney breast off leaving just the fire place, to give us a little extra space for shelving ect.
I believe the only thing behind it is the pipes for the gas fire that is being removed in the next few weeks.

Has anyone ever done this? on this type of van or any other?
Any tips or insights very welcome
