Disabled Caravan

Hi there

My name is Mairi and I work for a charity based in Glasgow supporting people with Motor Neurone Disease. We have been providing a holiday facility just outside St Andrews for all those with a disability. Many of our people are in wheelchairs (standard ones to large powered chairs). The caravan has a ramp for easy access and the doors are wide enough to let a chair through without any problems.

The kitchen worktops have been lowered to enable wheelchair users to be independent.

The caravan has a wet room with plenty of turning space. There is also a shower chair and raised toilet seat.

One of the beds has a mattress elevator on it and also there are grab handles above the bed which makes it easier for the more severely disabled to get out of bed.

The caravan does have its limitations for instance, we cannot fit a riser/recliner in it but those who have used it have thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
