We used to let our van out and never used more than 4 bottles per season. We had the auto changer valve fitted which had a red indicator for when the bottle was empty.

From previous posts on here, there isn't a system of how much gas has been used and how much is left in bottle,so as I suggested the site want to make sure the guests have full bottles to start with....it would be different if you rented van out yourself....the joys of renting out ,
To be honest I wouldn't want to rent our van out. Back in Spain we have our main house and a house that we rent out. They have a law in Spain that the government set the price for bottled gas which is considerably cheaper than it is in the UK.

We did have a gas hob in our rental property but I changed it to a new electric hob early last year. It was a pain. If the guests run out of gas, they used to ring me and I had to pick up the empty canister and go to a local garage that sold gas. Not what you want to do when you may be out for the day.
