Well, My Old Girl lives to see another Season

Here's my feedback
1. What was the overall condition of the exterior when you arrived?
The Old Girl stood defiantly - exactly as we had left her

2. Did your caravan feel damp? (add the age, it may be relevant)
On entering we felt no damp whatsoever, probably due to us having our first visit a couple of months into the season, and it was milder. (ABI 1996)
We had placed around a dozen bowls of salt around, the majority of which the first inch had solidified

3. Did it take long to warm up? (please mention type of heating used)
as it was 23C when we arrived, yes she was warm already. As soon as the sunlight began to fade, we put on the OFR on before all warmth was lost, and settled down for a comfortable cosy evening.

4. When you reconnected the water supply, were there any problems? If so, how were they rectified?
No problems re-connecting the water.

5. What did you need to do to get your caravan back to normal? (upholstery, curtains, moving rugs etc)
Un-stacked the sofa upholstery and re positioned, unrolled rug, lay mattresses flat (except memory foam which remained flat) took cushions, duvets, pillows etc from vacuum bags and put in position. Emptied the numerous bowls of salt into bin. Washed all crockery etc. I was amazed at how little dust there was this year! Last year we had a thin layer of gritty dust everywhere

6. Did you notice any black mildew anywhere on fabrics/curtains/walls etc?
Having a 1996 ABI Montrose, this was the main concern for me, but was delighted to come back to a mildew-free static Wiping down walls, ceiling doors and cupboards with a solution of Milton before closing up for winter had done it's job

7. How was your tv Ariel/satellite dish? Still where you left it?
Sat dish intact and working

8. Was there anything you forgot to do as you left last year? Was it ok?
We (HE) forgot to oil window catches, but thankfully they were fine (have now been done )

9. Is there anything else you wish you had done before you left last year?
Our list of jobs did the trick - she lives to see another year

10. What was the general state of the grounds of your site (flooding/turf etc)
Grounds looked the same as we did when we left
Nice puddles for the seagulls to wallow in when it rains

Great news Angela, glad everything was ok when you arrived. I think it certainly makes a difference to arrive in daylight and in the warmth, I must try it some time. Enjoy your time at your van x

i noticed that a few people use salt as a water and dampness preventor, when we had the touring van ,we used to mix it 50/50 salt and soap powder it gave a lovely smell to the room

Probably many will say I've never had a problem, but have been advised that using salt is not a good idea. Apparently being salt is corrosive, I have heard of some owners having problems with rust appearing on metal parts within the caravan. Rust may have appeared anyway, but just in case we have chosen to use cat litter (one made of pure clay).
