Post New mersey toll bridge

This may be of interest ,as at moment it's free, for people travelling back and to..

There is a new bridge opening over the mersey at widnes,runcorn...it is going to be tolled...locals can pay an annual fee of 10 pounds, but anyone with a blue badge can pay 5 pounds no matter where they live, think it's a one off payment? All others there is a toll...There are ways of paying for season tickets...

Yes it's a 1 off payment of 5.
But if you change car, then obviously you have to re register new car & pay another 5, or if you need a replacement sticker.
When you apply online you have to email copy of front & back of your badge, I have, and got my windscreen sticker.

You can pre register online for a yearly discount on tolls with a facility to top up your account.
They will be charging a toll on the old bridge too!

toll bridge is opening Friday midnight...so anyone possibly travelling from eg Liverpool to their vans in wales or reverse direction will have to pay their toll on line as there are no toll booths...think its 60 fine for not paying?

Had not realised it was not having toll booths
Some people will be caught out.

Mersey tolls.
Pay within 7 days at any pay zone outlet, pay online, or pre register for 10% discount & windscreen sticker
Otherwise cars, 2 per crossing

IF not paid within 7 days then penalties apply,
14days it's 20 + toll
28days it's 40 + toll
42 days it's 60 + toll
Over that Civil Penalty notice

I doubt very much that I will be using it. It's been a long time since I needed to go anywhere near Merseyside.

Quite a few people also use the Liverpool airport, but might be unaware that the existing bridge which is free, will be closed for 12 months, and once reopened will be tolled.

I can see a lot of people getting penalty notices, due to ignorance through no fault of their own, especially the older generation and people who are computer illiterate, and finding out where pay zones are etc.
You Could have a medical emergency where you have to cross the bridge, then will all stress you forget to pay or do not know how system works then you get a fine!
Great.

They will probably use Parking Eye camera company, if so watch out!

The amount of time you have to pay after crossing is crazy. You must pay by midnight the following day or get a fine. Highways have also said they are not changing the motorway signage, so I think a lot of people will be caught out.
On the plus side, the fireworks when it opened were quite spectacular!

Hi tt, I'm sure the information will be very helpful to some members of the forum. We bring our car over with us and our preferred route is Bilbao to Portsmouth so no planes Just a very long road trip and an overnight crossing on the ferry. We set off at 5:00am Wednesday and arrived at the van Friday morning at 2:45am
