Question Hole in wall above fire place

Hi all

Can you block of the large squarr hole in the wall above the gas fire in a static? Guessing it is meant to serve a purpose of some sort.

Currently has a picture over it but seems to be getting condensation in it.

Thanks

Sound like an access hatch to your flu liner ?...You may need access to it sometimes ? For maintenance or service etc. I believe they do get blocked sometimes....Even known birds get down there !

If it is an open gap and it bothers you, you can get an access hatch cover and fit that to it. It would still be accessible if required but not feeding condensation back into the room so much. Before you do though I would research why the caravan builders did it the way they have I.e. is there a reason that means it shouldn’t be closed off.

Thanks both for the replies. Never even gave maintenance for the flue access a thought.

Will have a further look into it.

If you block the area concerned, it may keep any condensation hidden and start to rot any wood which may be there. As has been suggested, contact the makers for advice before you do anything.

I think if you're getting condensation it suggests to me there is some kind of blockage ?...Due to lack of proper ventilation !

Hi All

Thanks for the replies. I think the picture we've put up is the issue (there was one there before) with it's backing compared to the original.

It may be you need either ventilation or insulation, if there is no insulation on the inside of the outside wall of the van the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the wall will be causing the condensation, like getting condensation on a pint of cold beer in a pub.
