Default Why is ebay so expensive??

A few months ago i was having a big clear up in my shed and started listing loads of stuff on ebay and sold very little, However when the ebay fees came in it was 57 ??

I was shocked to say the least, i'm toying with the idea of starting up my own auction site that only charges you when you actually sell something and then for a minimal percentage.

Even Paypal is ripping people off with 3.4% of the amount paid, plus 20p for each transaction.

Theres got to be better out there, If you could what would you guys like to see on an Auction site (Apart from a Static and caravan section )

Theres a good right up about Ebay fees here https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/ne...ch-out-for-fi/

I'm very wary of ebay. We were scammed when we sold an expensive tent (long story). It does make you very wary, but we've also had some brilliant bargains.
We have forgotten to bear in mind their selling fees plus PayPal fees on a few occasions tbh. Then we've kicked ourselves.
Preloved is good. We've sold our last 3 cars on there, all sold within a week or so. I use fb alot too, on my local groups. I sold my previous caravan in FOUR MINUTES
It wasn't underpriced, but was priced sensibly to sell. It was 18 years old too.

I never tend to sell anything, my wife just bins everything. very wasteful. We did have a clear out some years ago and our daughter asked if she could have the items, mostly toys all with boxes and in mint or good condition. We found out a few years later that she sold them at a car boot sale. She showed initiative and made a few hundred pounds.
