Default Chasis Rust Proofing - Willerby Seasons 2018

Hi All, last week we moved into our new caravan a Willerby Seasons 2018. I've had two previous caravans a Delta and, an Abi Focus. Sadly both of their chasis rusted badly, though I bought both when they were 7-8 years old. I learned my lesson this time around and made sure our caravan was quite new, however there is rust underneath already.

I've got 7 years of finance, but a site contract until 2035, so I want this one to last as long as possible.

I've bought Hamerite No1Rust Beater (Red), and have started applying it to the chasis. I get the impression this is probably going to take until 2035 to finish.....
I bought a chisel and scraped off the rust, then wire brushed as much as i could then applied the first coat.
My understanding is I need to apply 2 coats, then something else over the top, does anyone have any recommendations?
I'm breaking up on the 20th of December and will be staying in my van over Christmas until the new year so I havewhile to try and make a good start on it.

Any advice etc would be greatly appreciated, as this is my first attempt at this, I'd rather take my time and be thorough, and use the best products I can.

Depends on how bad the rust is ?...Maybe a power drill with a sanding disc ?..I have used a product called "D rust" before (mind you it was just on surface rust patches which I cleaned with a wire brush ) just paint it on ...Let it dry then paint over it with hammer rite ...Did the job ..

I would have thought a caravan of that age would have a galvanised chasis?

I think thats quite sad that they do not offer a galvanised chassis. even if your spending upto 50k on a new one.

I would paint with Hammerite black smooth, and ensure that you've painted as much as you can reach underneath

This paint sets rock hard and is not likely to flake, and no primer required.

However you say that some areas are rusty, and dependant on the extent of the rust you may need to bolt on some extra support metalwork to give it strength.

Thanks for the replies all.

Whats your opinions on Hamerite No1 Rust Beater (Red)?
Has anyone used it before?

I applied the first coat on Saturday, but sadly it got dark very quickly, and couldnt finish it Sunday because it was like a monsoon. So I will have another crack this weekend.

My first one was under that but was galvanised, however, the site owner often paid for extras like trace heating and Res I spec when he bought them in as he is a caravan dealer apart from on our site.

I'm sure I've seen a company advertised or recommended on here before that actually specialises in this type of work ?

Hi guys, thanks for the replies, it's not to difficult to be honest, just chisel / scrape the rust then use a wire brush before painting over it.
Thankfully we had 1 day of decent sun so I was able to paint, I've done about 1/4 of the chasis with 1 tin of paint, so I will probably carry on when the weather is better in March now.
