Hierro was a hero for Spain. Maybe his reputation will see him through. I'm not sure they will win the tournament though.

Amazing number of Chelsea players out there.

Well England won, but were they convincing? All I know their confidence looks very fragile, and I think they will need to be a lot better for the game against Belgium.

The first 45 minutes was very convincing but I think the sheer number of miss chances put some doubt in the players and that showed in the 2nd half

It's what happens when you have 100+ players on your books!

Two stone wall penalties missed by the officials. Unbelievable that the video adjudicator didn't spot either of them. It seems a waste of time employing the system if it's not used correctly.

Had those penalties been awarded I think the team would have considerably more confidence in their abilities despite the poor finishing that was evident.

VAR has been a joke so far, but I don’t think that would have helped all that much TBH. I was taught ( only at local league level mind you) that the purpose of passing across the back was to switch play and try and get the ball to where you can then go forward. At the speed England does this my local league team could get organised in front of them defensively, before they looked to see if a forward movement was possible. If they are professional athletes why does most of the team only seem to think, & move at walking pace?

So Germany out, Brazil, Argentina and France underwhelming and England arguably over-performing- that's the group stages out of the way.

We should now be able to have another go at picking the winners. Germany was a real damp squid. So much for my skill in picking a winner.

Mexico are a bit of a dark horse. I would have a punt on them if I was a betting woman.

4-3 on penalties! England wins! Am I dreaming?
Now it’s bring on the Swedes, as long as that doesn’t make us the Turnips
