If ever anyone needed to be reminded that their fire alarms should be regularly checked for their effectiveness, this is it!

Can't see anything about a failed smoke alarm in the report.

Probably not Henry, but where a caravan fire is concerned (or any fire for that matter) the quicker the occupants get out the better chance of survival. This is a reminder to everyone, and not just caravan dwellers, to make sure that their smoke alarm is in working order and to check that its working on a regular basis.

Trouble is, I'm not convinced that smoke alarms necessarily react quickly enough in a small space such as a caravan to give people enough warning.

Though I would still recommend that everybody has one.

I have smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors installed, one is mains powered and the others are battery. You never know what may cause a van fire, rodents nibbling at wiring or just damp or water egress sparking a short. In this case we do not know what is the real story, he may have been drunk and dropped a fag or something, but safety should be in all minds of static and tourers as they are sat for long periods in a open environment with who knows what sniffing, nibbling, peeing etc.

Keeps safe folks.

I've just posted a number of safety links here Eddie http://www.gostatic.co.uk/showthread.php?t=9248

As this is an old news report I'll close this thread now. Thank you to all for posting.
