30 degrees in the kitchen when we arrived this afternoon but relatively cool in lounge as it was shut off with the curtains closed. We opened the windows but left the curtains closed where the sun was hitting them and it was fine, hot but not uncomfortable. Too hot to sit on new deck must by a parasol and base ASAP.

I have not managed to keep it cool so far other than opening the rooflights in the kitchen and master bedroom and windows & doors. However I am going to take down my air conditioning unit at the weekend and that will really help.

Its a shame they don't do a double roof as an optional extra on vans as it would keep the van very cool in the summer and would help with condensation in the winter

Just refreshing this thread as the weather is so hot at the moment. There might be some tips you hadn't thought of

Our current caravan is on the edge of a wood & has tree cover so it keeps cool in summer. The downside is, early & late season there is no heat advantage from sun on the roof so June, July & August is lovely but March, April, May, Sept & Oct are bally cold! About to buy a new van at the top of the site which is very flat & sunny so I guess the reverse will be true. I don't think you can get holiday caravans cool in summer or warm in winter without expending huge amounts of energy & cost. Probably better to accept it as one of the joys of static caravans?

our van is near a bank of trees too, which does help, but I used to be able to open all the windows and let the air blow through the van but I cant do that when I go to the van now as the cats would escape!.

I just opened all the windows and door and poured a glass of chilled wine. Bliss!
